HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad She Teams police said they had booked 55 persons for indecent acts in public, during 176 decoy operations across the commissionerate between January 17 and 23. Petty cases were booked against 45 of them, while the remaining were counselled. The teams also received 18 complaints from women through various channels during the period. As part of Operation Smile-XII, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) rescued 337 children – 329 boys and eight girls –from different locations across Cyberabad. Officials said efforts were also made to address family disputes, with 30 cases of marital discord taken up at family counselling centres and CDEW Centres.
HYDERABAD: Traffic slowed for a while on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway near Abdullapurmet on Saturday morning after a lorry crashed into a divider and came to rest on top of it. No casualties were reported. With traffic slowing down, traffic police deployed a crane to remove the lorry. While police maintained there was no traffic jam, visuals from the spot showed congestion for a short period. Officials said brake failure may have caused the crash. No case has been registered so far.
HYDERABAD: Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday urged the youth to seize opportunities in emerging sectors such as IT, pharma and space technology over the next 25 years, to help realise the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. Speaking at the 18th Rozgar Mela organised at the CRPF Group Centre, Reddy congratulated recruits who received appointment letters and stressed that progress depends not only on leaders or officials but on the collective effort of citizens. “This is the time, the right time,” he said.
HYDERABAD: In an effort to curb road accidents and promote safer driving habits, the Khairatabad and Secunderabad traffic zones on Saturday organised Arrive Alive, a large-scale road safety awareness programme at Jalavihar. The event, which began at 8 am, was inaugurated by joint commissioner of police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, with cine actor Nikhil Siddharth as special guest and DCP (Traffic-I) Avinash Kumar in attendance. A massive bike rally involving nearly 300 riders was flagged off to spread awareness on responsible road behaviour.
Hyderabad: The transport department on Saturday rolled out its dealer-level vehicle registration policy, enabling registrations to be completed at the dealer point itself. Showroom dealers and buyers welcomed the initiative, noting that the registration fee remain unchanged. A key new feature of the policy is the mandatory linking of the vehicle owner’s bank account details with the registration number.

Hyderabad: An oyster sculpture, symbolising the city’s famed tag City of Pearls, was unveiled at Masab Tank on Saturday. The installation was designed and executed by Deccan Terrain Heritage for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as part of its heritage-in-urban-planning initiative. The project aims to adorn key junctions, parks and public spaces with sculptures, art and artefacts that showcase Hyderabad’s rich cultural fabric. “The sculpture is a tribute to the timeless pearl artistry and heritage of Hyderabad,” said Mir Khan, chief architect, Deccan Terrain Heritage.

Mumbai: Amid internal differences emerging within the Congress over the formation of a body in the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC), the Maharashtra Congress leadership on Saturday held an urgent meeting and attempted to resolve the issue. It was decided that the Congress group leader will be appointed by state president Harshwardhan Sapkal, while MP Pratibha Dhanorkar and legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar will decide the mayoral post and Standing Committee chairperson, respectively. The decision came in the backdrop of 13 of the 27 Congress corporators breaking away to form a separate faction on Friday. Mr Wadettiwar also made an allegation against the BJP for poaching the corporators to form the body in the CMC by offering Rs one crore. In the recently concluded CMC election, the Congress emerged as the single largest party with 27 seats in the 66-member civic body, where 34 seats are required for a majority. The BJP, with 23 seats, became the second-largest party. The Shiv Sena (UBT) won six seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena secured one seat. HYDERABAD: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday issued legal notices to Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri, charging them with making statements that were baseless and defamatory against him and his family. The BRS, in a news release, said that Rama Rao sought an explanation within five days from Sanjay and Arvind, failing which he said he will initiate civil and criminal proceedings against them as per law. Rama Rao sought an unconditional apology from the two BJP leaders for levelling “baseless allegations that were deliberately defamatory”.

Usman, a self-styled commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad who was killed by the Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday, was holding residents of a house in Parhetar village hostage, the police have said. The encounter involved police ensuring the civilians were rescued and moved to safety before they took on Usman. Following information that the terrorist was hiding in the village in Jammu’s Kathua district, security forces, the CRPF and the J&K police teams moved there, Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma said.

After a heavy spell of snowfall in Shimla and high hilly areas, the Department of Horticulture issued an advisory for the apple orchardists to follow scientific management of their orchards on Saturday. The advisory stressed the scientific management at this stage will improve the root health and strengthen the upcoming crops. The advisory advised the orchardists to prepare a basin (tauliya) around the tree trunk, ensuring that no digging is done within at least one foot of the trunk to prevent water seepage or wounds that could damage the main roots.
